This three-session workshop will explore bronze casting of small pieces. You will make your own molds using cuttlefish bone, which can be carved to create your own design. Experience the magic of molten metal, and the excitement of revealing your finished cast piece. No experience needed. You will be able to make several castings.

Bring your own silver if you wish to also cast in silver or contact me for materials.

In this intense workshop you will create a sterling silver bracelet while learning several new skills in the jewelry studio. We will make large and small round links (jump rings) from straight wire, learn how to pick solder, and add texture by hammering. The large links will then be connected by soldering smaller links. You’ll leave this workshop with your own handcrafted bracelet! Time permitting, students may also make a matching pair of earrings.

At the end of the week, you will take home your own unique wearable works of art, along with the skills you developed to create them. Materials will include copper, brass and leather.

Create your own custom stamped bracelet! You will be supplied copper coupons and shown how to sand and file the edges. Then choose from a variety of decorative stamps, letters, and patterns to create your very own design – which could include names, initials, a patterned motif or a collection of great textures. Typical adult sized bracelets will include 6-7 copper coupons, connected by jump rings.

Wear your new creation right out of class! No experience required.

Mixed Metal Pendant Workshop

In this 2 session workshop, you will create a multi-layered metal pendant with a bezel-set stone accent. You will be guided to design your own organic shapes and cut them out of metal, solder down a bezel, and then rivet the layers together. Final touches will be polishing and setting the 10 mm stone. A black onyx or tiger's eye stone will be provided, or you may bring your own 10mm cabochon.

Basic jewelry experience required.

Metalworking for Pirates: A Serious Fun Camp

All hands on deck for this summers pirate themed jewelry making class! Have you ever wanted to make your own skull & cross bones medallion? A kraken belt buckle ? Or have an idea for your very own design on a coin?

 

This serious fun camp for 4th and 5th graders is designed to let you experience a sense of adventure while learning traditional metal-smithing techniques. Join in to create sea worthy pieces ranging from embelished copper “treasure” coins, to a swashbuckling belt buckle, to hoop earrings, or a coveted medallion necklace that will be the envy of any ship’s captain.

You will learn how to safely use metal working tools including: planishing hammers, riveting hammers, texturing hammers, jeweler’s saws, rough and fine files, hand drill, stamps, dapping blocks, bench vise, bench anvil, scribe, sanding sticks, pliers, cutters, and punches. Please Note: Fine motor skills required.

Metal Working and Jewelry for Pre-teens: Spring Break Camp

Middle Schoolers will focus on traditional metalworking skills as well as experience the newest ways of working with metal in this camp. You will learn to cut, pierce, form, file, join, and finish metals on their way to finishing several projects, including jewelry, in various metals. Creativity will be encouraged as you develop your own designs while working safely. The instructor will guide your creative efforts in addition to class demonstrations. At the end of the week you’ll display your finished pieces for family and friends. Fine motor skills are required for this camp. Teens ages 12 and up welcome. Class meets Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Hammered Circle Earrings Workshop!

In this workshop you will create two pairs of simple, stunning circle dangle earings; one copper and one silver, finished with a hammered texture. Students will also learn how to fabricate their own silver ear wires. Techniques covered will include measuring, sawing, filing, soldering, and polishing. No previous experience necessary, fine motor skills required.
