Chalice Ring
When I think of a chalice, I think of a vessel to hold something precious. Maybe your favorite wine drinking cup is a chalice of sorts, but here, the chalice ring cups a vibrant stone.
I create the vessel which holds the stone by hand dapping a sterling silver circle into a dome. I then solder a little jump ring to the inside of the dome, which creates a seat for the stone to sit on. After carefully soldering the dome onto the ring shank, I hammer-set the stone by closing in the perimeter of the dome, to hug the stone in place. The marking around the edge of the bezel/dome are each created from a single hammer strike--and as you can see, there were many.
